Jesus sends the Advocate
In the devotional that I read, Jesus is telling his disciples that he is soon to be going away. When he goes he send someone he calls the Comforter (also called the Advocate). He says this one will convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. Jesus actually said that it was to their advantage that he went away, which seems hard for me to believe. I like the word "advocate". I am often an advocate for the people I work with in one sense or another. I speak for the person or bridge a gap when they aren't capable of doing so. It is a powerful word. It is a reminder that the Holy Spirit is the gap filler, the one who advocates for us before God the Father. Sometimes it is easy to think of how God might be mad because of how short we fall from his grace and the holiness he calls us to walk. In times like that, you can look at the word of God and realize that God Himself is the one who intercedes for you in the person of the Holy Spirit. He intervenes for Him
